FIELD TRIP INFO
Team Ascent will be taking a field trip to Rattlesnake Mountain in Willsboro, N.Y. to spend the day hiking. Our ascent is a culminating activity for the unit we have been studying on the novel Everest: The Contest by Gordon Korman. Students have been reading the book and studying mountaineering (what items and character traits go in our backpack and how do we use them for success), which has been the theme for our team.

On Thursday, October 6th, 2016 7th grade Team Ascent students will be bussed to the base of Rattlesnake Mountain. Teams of students and chaperones will climb at different intervals. Students will have to complete work as they climb, and will radio information to our basecamp. At the summit, students will have their pictures taken and enjoy the view before descending to the base of the mountain to have lunch. Busses will leave school at 9:00 a.m. and will return to school by 2:30 p.m. There will be a nurse joining us on the trip. Each student will be provided with a bag lunch through our cafeteria. Students will hear a presentation about climbing safety and trail etiquette before we depart. All students will be responsible for the work done at the trip location, and assignments will be given to students that do not attend.
Each student must:
- Wear sneakers or hiking shoes
- Bring a backpack
- Bring a filled water bottle for the trail
- Bring a writing utensil
- Dress in layers (it may be cold in the morning)
